Below are some frequently asked questions regarding school pets.
What are the benefits of having a school pet?

A calming effect on pupils, particularly those with behavioural, emotional or learning difficulties.

Encouraging expression and participation.

Promotes a sense of responsibility.

Stress relief for children (and staff!).

Motivating pupils to think and to learn as most children have a high level of natural interest in animals.

Teaching children to nurture and respect life.

How will school plan for this?

A full risk assessment and policy has been written.

Consent has been sought from parents of children who will come into contact with the animals.

Children will not be unsupervised with any animal and contact will be carefully planned.

When not enjoying classrooms, Luna will be in the office with Mrs Taylor and Mrs Welbourn whilst class pets will be housed in their respective classrooms.
What about allergies?

All rooms and corridors are thoroughly hoovered at the end of every day to remove pet hair, along with all surfaces wiped and cleaned with anti-bacterial spray.
